What resolution do you actually need?
Instagram posts need about 1.2MP (1080×1080) — most phone photos already clear that bar. Amazon's zoom feature activates at 1000px and is recommended at 2000×2000px (4MP), so a 1000×1000 product photo typically needs a 2x upscale. A 4×6 inch print at 300 DPI needs 1200×1800px — roughly a 2x upscale from a 1000px source. An 8×10 inch print at 300 DPI needs 2400×3000px, about a 3x upscale. The formula is simple: pixels needed = inches × 300 DPI for print, or check the platform's stated minimum for web/marketplace use.
Upscaling for Amazon, eBay, Etsy, and Shopify zoom
